Shrimp Dirty Rice

🛒 Ingredients

  • ½ lb ground beef

  • ½ lb ground pork sausage

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled & deveined

  • 3 cups cooked white rice (day-old works best)

  • 1½ cups chicken broth (or 1 tsp Better Than Bouillon + water)

  • 1 cup onion & bell pepper mix, finely chopped

  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil (divided)

  • 1½ tsp seafood seasoning (like Old Bay)

  • 1 Tbsp all-purpose flour (for thickening)

  • 1 tsp dried oregano

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp dried thyme

  • ½ tsp chili powder

  • ½ tsp black pepper

  • ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)

  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

🔪 Instructions

1️⃣ Season & Sauté Shrimp:

  • Toss shrimp with seafood seasoning.

  • Heat 1 Tbsp oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high. Cook shrimp for 2–3 minutes per side until pink and curled. Remove and set aside.

2️⃣ Brown the Meats:

  • In the same pan, add remaining oil. Cook beef and sausage, breaking into crumbles, until lightly browned (5–6 minutes).

3️⃣ Sauté Veggies & Aromatics:

  • Add onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic. Cook until softened (3–4 minutes) and meat is fully done.

4️⃣ Add Spices & Thicken:

  • Stir in oregano, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, black pepper, salt, and cayenne.

  • Sprinkle flour over mixture; stir to coat. Gradually pour in broth, stirring to combine. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until slightly thickened.

5️⃣ Combine Rice & Shrimp:

  • Fold in cooked rice and simmer for 5 minutes to absorb flavors.

  • Return shrimp to the pan; stir gently until heated through (2–3 minutes).

6️⃣ Serve:
